Nestled in a small and very quiet street, Aemstelhuys and its unique location offers visitors the bustle of the Utrechtsestraat at one end with its array of restaurants, bars and cafés and the beautiful Amstel river and the Skinny Bridge at the other.
Next to the famous ring of canals
Located at the beginning of the Canal Belt which has become a UNESCO World Heritage site and the “Great Waterloo District” which contains six of Amsterdam’s most important cultural sites; the Hermitage museum, Jewish Historical museum, Portuguese Synagogue, the Music Theater, the Hortus Botanicus and Rembrandt’s House.
A two minute walk along the banks of the Amstel will bring you to the Magere Brug. The views from this well known bridge are stunning. Turn left from Aemstelhuys and you will be on Amsterdam’s main canals at the Seven Bridges and Rembrandtplein.
Just across the Amstel River from Aemstelhuys is the Royal Carré Theatre. Circus director Oscar Carré opened his Circus Theatre on the Amstel River in 1887. Since then Carré is a theatre not only for circus but for musicals, plays and concerts and is the most illustrious theatre in the Netherlands.
Direct Tram from Central Station
Tram number 4 will bring you directly from Amsterdam's Central Station to the end of my street and just a few minutes walk from the front door. Get off at the stop "Prinsengracht".
